Request an Estimate - Step 1 of 2
While the summertime is one of the best times of the year to move if you have kids, it can be extra difficult to adjust to a new home in time for a comfortable transition to the school year. Children can have lots of issues dealing with the change in location, but when you throw them right into a new school as well, they can start to crack. As a parent, it is up to you to make sure that your children are able to adjust to everything without too much trouble. To that end, here are a few simple tips that you can employ to make your transition comfortable and successful.
Provide Warning
Kids don’t like bad surprises, so it is no wonder that they don’t like it when you sneak a move in on them. As such, you should always provide your kids with ample warning when things are about to change that much, talking to them before you get the moving quotes . They will have more time to prepare and plan, and get excited, especially if you have pictures and maps that will allow them to envision things in their new home. As with this concept, try to get pictures and information about the school that they will be attending after the move so that they can come to terms with the very idea of a new school well before the school year actually arrives.
Make It Exciting
There are many things that you can do to help your child get through the move and having to attend a new school , but perhaps the most positive way to handle things is to make it as exciting as possible. This can mean many things, such as taking a field trip to the school before the actual school year begins. It might also mean a shopping spree where your kids can pick out new supplies that they are going to need anyways for the coming school year. Remember that kids are sensitive to your reactions, so if you act as if it is an exciting time, then they will eventually come to think of it like this as well.
Plan a Tour
Many schools offer new students the chance to take a tour and meet with some of the teachers and administrators. Contact the school as soon as the teachers return so that you can opt in for one of these tours before the actual first day of school. This will give your kids the chance to look around and see what the school looks like so that they are not totally lost on the first day. They might also get to meet the teacher that they are going to have for that year. This can be a great relief to them, as your kids probably have plenty of fears regarding new teachers and finding their way around a new school.
Be There
Perhaps the most important thing you can do for your kids when you are moving and they have to start a new school year at a new school is to be there for them. This simple act of time can make all the difference in the world for your kids, especially at a time when they are stretched to their very limits. Keep these things in mind and you can enjoy a stress free move with your kids any time you need to go to a new home.
