Request an Estimate - Step 1 of 2
Going green is the next new thing. People everywhere are making strides to protect and save what’s left of the environment. Nowadays, even the most environmentally unfriendly operations, such as moving and relocating, can be transformed into eco friendly events. Want to know how? Read on before you start getting moving estimates!
Making your move green isn’t something that will take you lots of...green. Instead of spending more money to go the environmentally friendly way, you can actually save hundreds of dollars by taking a few simple steps towards a more environmentally friendly move. Keep the following tips in mind and see how cash savings and saving the environment can go hand in hand when you are moving.
Recycling Old Materials
The big thing about moving materials and packing supplies that you need before you move is that they only get used once and then they are generally thrown away. If you want to make your move a greener move, then consider reusing these packing materials so that you don’t have to add more trash to the local landfill. There are many places where you can get used boxes, including local stores and even people in the area who have just moved. Check the local paper to see if people in your area are selling or giving away their moving boxes and packing materials.
Conserve Fuel
Whether you are going to move with a company or move on your own, make sure that you try to get everything in a single load. This will reduce the amount of fuel that you use and the amount of carbon that you are responsible for throughout the process. A smaller moving truck might be cheaper up front, but a bigger truck making a single trip can save you money in the form of fuel over the long run. What’s more, a single trip means that you put far less pollution into the atmosphere than if you made multiple trips to and from your old home.
Do It Yourself
The more of the move that you accomplish on your own, the better off you will be. Not only will packing or loading on your own save you money, but it will allow you to use towels as padding and packing paper rather than allowing the movers to use paper and other supplies that are just going to get thrown out at the other end of the move. This will also allow you the chance to pack things the way you want them packed, taking extra care with fragile items.
Save Money, Save the Earth
While saving the environment is not always great for saving your time, you can save tons of money and the environment by keeping these tips in mind when you are planning out your near-future move. Not only will you see the benefits, but your legacy will be that you helped keep things green in a world that throws so many things away.
