Moving Boxes: Various Levels of Protection

If you are moving to a new home, then you know that you will need to purchase moving boxes so that you can pack all of your things for transport. What many people who are in such a situation don’t realize is that there are various different containers out there for various different tasks. Regardless of where you might be moving to, having the right tools available will only make the process that much easier. To this end, here are some of the more common box types that you will use when packing for a move. Look over this list and figure out just what you need in order to get all of your goods ready for the big day.

Regular Boxes

The most common type of container for moving things in is a regular moving box. These cardboard containers are simple. With four walls, a top and a bottom, these boxes provide the easiest place for you to put things when you need to move. They come in a variety of different sizes, so it is important to choose the right size for the right items. For example, smaller boxes should be used for items that are quite heavy so that you do not end up packing a bunch of stuff only to find out that the box is too heavy for you to reasonably lift and move. Larger containers are used to pack light things such as lamp shades, linens, and bulky things that do not weigh too much.

Cells

Another quite common form of moving box is something that is known as a cell container. These boxes are larger containers with dividers inside that section off smaller areas for little items that are easily damaged. You will usually see movers using these containers to pack things like glasses or coffee cups that might get broken if they were to shift around while in transit. Generally, these small items are wrapped in packing paper first and then placed in their own cell within the box. While more expensive than a normal one, these containers provide the highest level of protection for anything small and breakable.

Mirrors and Pictures

Flat, yet breakable items like pictures and mirrors present a totally new problem to anyone who is moving, even with help from a professional moving companies. As such, the industry has come up with a new way to pack these items. While many movers and truck rental agencies say to load these items between the mattress and the wall of the truck to provide protection, it is important that they are wrapped and protected in a special box as well. Such containers exist in two parts that allow you to wrap the item in bubble wrap, place it in half of the box, pad the item so that it does not shift, and then secure the top so that nothing can escape. These containers are the safest method of moving these delicate items.

Wardrobes

Finally, another common moving box is known as the wardrobe box. These boxes are great for people who have lots of clothes. Instead of pulling everything off of the hangars and folding them, consider opting for one of these boxes that will allow you to hang your clothes instead. While these boxes can be quite a bit larger than some of the other types, they also serve a very important purpose. It is important to remember, however, that not all of your clothing needs to go into one of these containers. Instead, use them in conjunction with regular boxes to achieve the best results.
