Now that you are moving to, from, or around in Maryland, it is important that you choose a company that you can trust. Why is this important in Maryland? Unlike other states, there is no system to license local moving companies throughout the state. While long distance companies still must comply with federal standards, local companies are fraught with scams and other problems. You can avoid these issues, however, by finding the perfect company through Moving Estimates. All of the companies we work with have excellent reputations, allowing you to take the guesswork out of your move.
Maryland is unique in that it is the only state with a motto in Italian. Although it is sometimes mistaken for Latin, the motto ‘Fatti Maschii, Parole femine’ is and Italian phrase that means ‘Manly deeds, womanly words’. Though this motto is contested, it was meant to mean the same thing as ‘Walk softly and use a big stick’.
There is a very wide amount of geographical diversity in Maryland. Due to this, the state is often referred to as America in miniature. There are sand dunes at one point in the state, while marshlands dominate the bay areas. Rolling hills are found near the center of the state and mountainous pine forests are noted further to the west. For as small as this state is, there is a huge amount of diversity between one part of the state and another.
Maryland was one of the first places to institute laws concerning religious tolerance. The Maryland Toleration Act of 1649 described laws that limited religious persecution, even though the toleration that this act brought about only applied to Christians that believed in the trinity. This state was also one of the few areas where Catholics held the highest positions in political offices.
While modern day laws prohibit the discrimination of people based on religion, much of Maryland still adheres to early Roman Catholic traditions. The state has not seen the Catholics as a majority since early colonial times, but various Catholic traditions and firsts are still prominent in this area. This is probably due to the simple fact that this area was colonized on the premise that it would be a safe haven for Catholics coming to the new world.
